When you remove the DataVault 7 software from your computer and prepare for reinstallation of the software, you are also removing the Secure Folder (with your files), and a Settings folder, unless you take steps to save your data files.
If you want to save the files stored in your Secure Folders, then before uninstalling DV7 you will first need to back up those Secure Folders, or copy the “ENCDataVault” folder and paste it to your desktop.
External USB drive
If the DV7 software is installed on an external drive (SSD, USB flash drive etc.), back up your Secure Folder data or copy the "ENCDataVault" folder to your desktop, before proceeding to delete all the DataVault files and folders to start a fresh installation.
On a computer / laptop
If you have DV7 installed on your computer and have created secure folders on an externally connected device, such as a flash drive, you can leave those Secure Folders in place on the USB device and connect them after the new installation is done.
Note: If you have Vault folders or Secure Folders on your external USB devices for other installed software, including ENCDataVault 6, EncryptStick, EncryptStick Lite or SanDisk SecureAccess, do NOT remove those folders. Those folders can be added into the DV7 program interface after re-installation.
Below are steps for completely removing and reinstalling the software on your computer
Basic uninstallation in Windows
- Go to the Windows Control panel;
- Go to Programs and Features;
- Select ENC DataVault and click uninstall.
After this de-installation, you will most likely have to restart your computer to fully complete the uninstall (one driver used by the application can only be uninstalled if not in use).
Removal of DataVault Secure Folder and DataVault Settings folders
- Navigate to C:\Users\”username”\Local\ENC Security BV\ENC DataVault70
- If you want to restore your existing Secure Folder after reinstalling the software and you were unable to back up your DataVault 7 Secure Folder data, copy the folder “ENCDataVault70” and paste it to your desktop;
- Go back to the ENC Security BV folder and delete it;
Deleting the DataVault Secure Folder
The above steps do not delete the Secure Folder in the existing installation. Do not delete the Secure Folder if you are not entirely sure about this step. Deleting a Secure Folder is permanent and cannot be restored. Carefully follow the advice of our Support department when asked to delete folders. Delete the Secure Folder and its contents, as follows:
- Open Windows Explorer on your computer;
- Navigate to where you have stored the Secure Folder
- Delete the Secure Folder folder
