Use this guide to create a backup of a Secure Folder, select the backup location and/or specify the number of backups you want to keep. Each of your Secure Folders is backed up individually.
First You Choose a Backup Location
- Open DataVault 7 and log-in
- On the main screen menu, choose Settings;
- On the drop-down menu select the Advanced tab>Backup Location and click on 'Change';
- In the open File Explorer or in Finder, navigate to the location you choose for backups to be stored;
- You can choose your cloud folder for storage of backups (Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud); the encryption applied to your cloud folder does not affect the DataVault-encrypted folders;
NOTE: If you do not choose a location for backups, they are stored on your computer in the default location assigned by the software.
Make a Backup
- Open DataVault 7 and log in;
- On the main overview screen, press the gear/cog icon of the Secure Folder you want to backup;
- Enter the folder's password to access the Secure Folder settings, and on the menu dialog choose "Backup";
- Click “Backup now”;
- When the Backup is finished, close the Settings folder;
Choose the Number of Backups to be Retained
- Open DataVault 7 and log-in
- On the main Secure Folders overview screen, press the cog icon of the Secure Folder you want to backup
- Enter your Folder's password to access the Secure Folder settings, then navigate to "Advanced"
- Make sure a checkmark is placed by "Enable automatic backup retention"
- Select the number of backups you want to keep;
Restore a Secure Folder from a Backup
- Open DataVault 7 and log-in
- On the main screen, choose Settings in the DataVault menu;
- On the drop-down menu, choose 'Restore';
- Click on the box in the dialog menu, and choose the secure folder to restore;
Select the number of Backups
- Open DataVault 7 and log-in
- On the main Secure Folders overview screen, press the cog icon of the Secure Folder you want to backup
- Enter your Folder's password to access the Secure Folder settings, then navigate to "Advanced"
- Make sure a checkmark is placed by "Enable automatic backup retention"
- Select the number of backups you want to keep;
