Most important, if your device is lost, broken or stolen, the files in your DataVault Secure Folders are safe and cannot be accessed by anyone. Just install and activate ENC DataVault 7 on a new USB flash drive, using either your existing license or a new one if your existing license is fully used.
Then log in to DataVault, open the Settings folder in the main menu and use the "Restore Wizard" to recover your files from your most recent backup. You choose the Secure Folder to be restored and the Wizard will restore your files.
What if the computer that contains my Secure Folder backups is broken or stolen?
It is vitally important to have a CURRENT backup of ALL the data stored on your computer. Your DataVault Secure Folders should be in your Computer's Documents folder or Applications folder. When you back up your computer folders, to an external drive or to your Cloud folder, your DataVault Secure Folders will be included and would then be available to restore in the event that you need to migrate your data and software programs to a new computer.
IMPORTANT: Proper backup procedures must be followed in order to be able to Restore data.
Only the data and files backed up can be recovered.
Restoring/Recovering Secure Folder Data
There is a Data Recovery Feature in the software. If you lose your USB drive you can access the data in Secure Folders on your PC/Mac, provided that the conditions below are met:
- You have made a backup of your Secure Folder(s) (You can find Backup procedures in a different Help Center article). Note: Only those files you have backed up can be recovered;
- You can recall your login password(s) to open the Secure Folder(s) that were backed up; (if you change the password(s) used to open your Secure Folder(s), you should ALWAYS make new backups immediately AFTER your password(s) are changed;
- You have purchased a full license for ENC DataVault (If the existing license is fully used, you can purchase another license after you have lost your device)
Procedures
